A bold, zesty-sweet drink brimming with freshly squeezed lemons, a touch of salt, and optional ginger for a fiery twist. This vibrant Brazilian staple is perfect for summer gatherings, offering a refreshing hydration boost with tropical flair and aromatic depth.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 12–15 lemons)
1Β½ cups granulated sugar
4 cups cold water
1 cup hot water
1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and grated (optional)
Pink Himalayan salt to taste
Mint leaves or lemon slices for garnish

Instructions

Dissolve sugar into 1 cup hot water in a pitcher, stirring until clear. Let cool slightly.
Add lemon juice and grated ginger (if using). Taste and adjust salt for a balanced tang.
Chill the mixture for 20 minutes while glasses are frozen.
Stir in 4 cups cold water just before serving.
Pour over crushed ice, garnish with mint or lemon slices, and offer a fresh lemon wedge on the side.

Notes

Bottled lemon juice can be used if fresh lemons are unavailable; reduce water by 2 cups.
Add chili flakes for a spicy version (limonada de limΓ£o com pimenta).
Replace half the water with pineapple juice for a tropical twist.
Use a whisk to aerate the final mixture for a lighter texture.
